A member of the student council and the swimming club, Shirley is Lelouch's friend and classmate. She has had a crush on Lelouch, while Lelouch is completely oblivious to her feelings. Shirley is very spoilt, or at least very innocent and protected from reality. She is blind to the fact of terrorism in her area, and instead worries and complains about boys. She is a very typical teenage character. Spoilers start here. Shirley finally gathers the courage to ask Lelouch out. And as she gets ready for their date, she gets a call. Her dad has died, Zero and his actions being the indirect cause. Shirley puts on a brave face for her friends, but is anguished on the inside. Viletta approaches her, telling her that Lelouch may be related to Zero. Shirley doesn't want to believe it, but she's still curious, so she cooperates with Viletta. When she and Viletta find out Zero is Lelouch, Shirley shoots Viletta, desperately trying to keep Lelouch's secret. Even though Zero killed her father, Lelouch meant more to her. To make use of Shirley guilt of killing someone, and her confusion of Zero and Lelouch, Mao tries to manipulate her. He tells her she should die for killing someone, and so should Lelouch. In her anguish and pain, she shoots at Lelouch (at, the bullet doesn't hit him), believing that she and Lelouch should atone for their sin by dying. Against her will, Lelouch uses Geass on her, and makes her forget everything about himself so she wouldn't have to remember and go through with anything anymore. Now she can't remember anything about Lelouch, and treats him like a stranger. Milly worries about this attitude, but Lelouch puts her off by saying that they had a fight. She then finds a page of her diary she wrote before; saying that Zero is Lelouch and that he killed her father. She's even more confused, wondering why she can't remember the boy in her class or club, the brother of Nunnally, and why she finds a note saying that he's Zero. She tries to talk to Lelouch about it, but has so far failed.
